Cognia BOE 2.2025
Slide 1 Cognia Presentation to the Board of Education February 5, 2025
Slide 3 Background History Context Dan- Cognia is a global organization that supports institutions through continuous improvement. Previously Cognia was AdvancEd and before that North Central. Our school’s relationship with the organization extends over 100 years. Alignment with SIP, some redundancy, caused many locally to move away, we have continued the relationship because of the tools that provide for deeper/more comprehensive reflection/review of data and impact for our students. Feedback from 2010 engagement review was impressive work by numerous disconnected initiatives/committees: 2010, As a district and building the notion of “aligning arrows” was a focus of growth if not having all arrows feed into the single arrow of growth in school improvement. We now have a building pdc that functions in alignment with district pdc/district improvement goals. Our equity committee and mental wellness committee function as subcommittees of the larger group. Feedback from 2015 engagement review addressed a needed focus on formative assessment and feedback. Our growth in designing and implementing formative assessments along with the work of our equity committee (2016-2020) served as important foundations for the seismic change in our grading practices In 2019 we used the AdvancEd’s strategies tools to develop our school improvement plan. Analogous to a funnel, the strategies were protocols and structures to access and analyze data to produce focused and needed goals.
