Cognia Ex Sum 020525

School District of Clayton For Information Only | Action Required Board of Education

Cognia February 5, 2025

Summary Dr. Dan Gutchewsky, principal of Clayton High School and the Clayton High School Academic and School Improvement Chair, Mr. Craig Sucher will present an overview of the Cognia accreditation process and the Clayton High School (CHS) results.

Description of Agenda Item Cognia is a global organization that supports institutions through continuous improvement. CHS’s relationship with the organization extends over 100 years. Some redundancy with state accreditation caused many local schools and districts to move away from Cognia. CHS has continued the relationship because of the tools that provide for deeper/more comprehensive reflection/review of data and impact for our students.

Dr. Gutchewsky and Mr. Sucher will present an overview of the Cognia process and the results of the latest review of CHS.

Background Information Cognia is a global network of educators that has helped strengthen schools for the past 130 years through a rigorous research-based set of standards and evidence-based criteria. The holistic approach to continuous improvement encompasses accreditation and certification, assessment, professional learning, and customized improvement services. Cognia wants all students to have the opportunities that knowledge brings.

The Cognia process looks at the whole institution—from policies/practices to learning conditions and cultural context—to determine how well these individual parts work together to meet the needs of every learner. Recommendation This is for information purposes only.
