Speaker labels are inferred from the recording; proper names are corrected against the public record. How this works ↗
All right. Hello everybody. It's October 27th and we are going to have a short business meeting tonight and then move on to our community engagement forum. So it's good to see everybody and let's get started with the pledge of allegiance. okay great so i think um we are going to jump right in to our first action item which is our covid resolution and um i am going to ask stacy to read the motion please
i move that the board of education approved the covid19 staff vaccination procedures resolution
second Great, it's been moved and seconded. Are there any questions or comments? Yes, Steve.
So was there any feedback from the teachers
Yes, so when we initially were investigating this idea, it came up in part of our PRC group. And from that, our staff was actually anticipating this. And they were looking for this to be our next layer of protection that we're adding in. So as far as that, I have not gotten any feedback specifically about it. But overall, we feel that our staff was anticipating this to be our
Should we, just for the people that are listening, should we back up and just kind of read what the resolution is or give a synopsis of what it is?
Absolutely. And Heather and Chris, I don't know if you want to come up here and add anything to what I'm going to be saying. Basically, in order to make sure that we have a community that's safe and we're taking all the precautions necessary, we put together a resolution that gives our staff the option of either showing proof of vaccination. and or they could if they were not vaccinated, they could be given a weekly test. And that test can be taken at the school building where we've made it try to make it as convenient for them as possible, or they could take it off site as well. So it would be weekly testing that they would be doing. We did an initial survey to find out originally what percentage of our staff is vaccinated. When we did our first survey result, 90% of our staff responded to the survey and of the 90%, 97% of our staff was vaccinated. We did a second survey where we actually asked them to fill out more details like when was the first vaccine taken, when was the second vaccine taken. and then to show the proof of vaccination. And right now we're about roughly 95%. So, and Heather, I don't know, I think we have about 20 to 30 maybe staff members that are not vaccinated at this point. Yeah. And so we're going to be working with those individuals, you know, in terms of weekly testing. Any other questions or thoughts? And I didn't know, Heather, if you wanted to add anything else in there.
um i am setting up booster clinics because that's another thing that's been i've been asked about so right now sync pharmacy is who did all of our clinics last year and our date tentatively is december 3rd and they'll be able to offer the pfizer and madera as well so yeah great
heather do you think that um You know how we did the clinics for the kids, did we do for 12 and up? Will we be able to do that for the 5- to 12-year-olds too?
So today that was the other question I touched base with her about because the date I originally had was November 6th. We've moved it to the 13th because she doesn't think that they'll have the supply out by the 6th, so we moved it to the following Saturday. Okay.
So we're very hopeful that we can do it on the 13th. We're just not communicating or advertising yet as much because we don't know for sure, but the minute we find out, we will be.
We'll be sending out a questionnaire soon just to get the interest and so that we can staff it and that kind of thing too.
That's great. Thanks for all your hard work with that. Does anybody else have questions on the resolution? Yes.
We're not in any way talking about a requirement for children.
Correct. This is only for staff.
And by staff, do we mean every employee of the district? Correct. Not just ones who interact with students?
Correct. Every employee of the district. So that includes even our coaches and any part-time employees. Yes. Maintenance, facilities, everyone.
And at Special School District and Chartwells are also working very closely with us to support this, to let them so that they're, because SSD teachers are technically employees of Special School District. Our food service employees are technically employees of Chartwells, but they're working with us to make sure that their staff who are working here are following the same guidance and program.
I do have a question. What about the bus drivers? I know we're doing some routes, but what about the VIC bus drivers? We're working with them too? We have not had that conversation with VIC yet.
That's a good question. I think we
should be working with them also.
And sorry, separate but related, not for staff, but a follow up to Steve's question. Now the vaccines are almost available for younger students. I have had community members ask if we are anticipating that we would help to coordinate vaccine clinics at school the same way that we did for the middle schoolers and the high schoolers.
Yes. So we, yes, we are working on that. Um, we're just waiting for confirmation to get that, but we're hoping, um, by mid November we could have a clinic.
I mean, it won't be at school just because we'd be looking to have one clinic for all of our eligible five through 11 year olds. So at this point we're looking at a stupor gymnasium on a Saturday.
Perfect
for that.
I think community members were just hoping at least the ones that have talked to me that there would be an option to do that. So that's great news. Yeah.
Gary.
Um, just would say, I think this is, um, a really represents a lot of really good work and appreciate this effort in putting this together. It certainly, um, support this actually also think that, um, it's worth making a point that I think it's been a strength of our, our board and our district that throughout this, the board has not, um, micromanaged the specific details of how we've addressed COVID protocols. I think that's, um, I think that's been good. I think this falls well within procedure and process that the administration is certainly more expert in coming up with and defining. I do think on this particular issue, it also is good for us to lend our support to it. So I'll just make that point. I think this is great to do. It's good for us to support it. without necessarily having to get into the job of defining all of these detailed procedures the way we've avoided so far. So I think that's good.
Thank
you. Anyone else? Okay, all in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Okay, motion passes. And then I believe the only other thing we have is the consent agenda.
I move that the board approve consent agenda items 3.02 to 3.06. Second. It's
been moved and seconded. Questions or comments? All in favor? Aye. Any opposed? Motion passes. And then I think we can adjourn. Well, yeah, I think we can
I move to adjourn the business portion of the meeting and move to the community engagement meeting.
Second.
All in favor? Aye.
